El Clasico: Barcelona Run Riot Against Real Madrid

Not many would have guessed the result at the start of the game but Barcelona silenced their critics by thrashing Real Madrid 0 – 4 in their backyard. It can be considered a huge statement after a period of dominance from Real Madrid and it has relit the magic of El Clasico.

Xavi has managed to turn his team around after such a poor start to the season and he looks to be establishing a Barcelona team to dominate in the years to come. The manager may be on the right path securing his legacy further in the dugout.

After 5 consecutive losses in a row, The Catalan giants displayed a dominant performance and kept the opposition’s most dangerous players quiet. Gerard Pique even managed to tweet a few minutes after the game that his beloved team are back.

This was an important moment from the defender who has experienced more Clasicos than other players, through the dominant eras of Lionel Messi versus Cristiano Ronaldo, the incredible highs during Pep Guardiola’s time as manager and currently during the huge changes in the squad following Barca’s financial problems.

However, Real Madrid would need to have a crazy collapse at the end of the season for them to drop from the top spot so potentially they may have the last laugh. Carlo Ancelotti’s team remains nine points clear ahead of Sevilla at the top of the table and 12 points ahead of Barcelona who are third.

The Barca could be a serious problem again for Real Madrid in the next year or so.

Xavi said “We changed our negative dynamic of losing the last few Clasicos. We’ve proved we can compete and play against the best sides in the world.”

He reckons that it’s a bit late to win the title but his team are heading in the right direction. It was a big win for them.

“I’m very proud of my team. This is El Clasico and can only help us going forward. There’s still a lot to do.”

Xavi was bought up with the Barca philosophy and he has been slowly instilling it back into his side. He has everything he needs to bring the glory days back to the La Liga giants.

After the abysmal performances under Ronald Koeman, Xavi has managed to turn things around and implement his style on the players since arriving in November. He has also been boosted with some very important January signings which have seemed to push the team forward.

One of those crucial January signings includes Pierre-Emerick Aubamayang who silenced the home crowd at the Bernabeu when he scored his two goals in the first and second half of the game.

The Real Madrid fans even had to suffer via listening to the oppositions fans shout ole every time Barca made a pass.

When Messi and Ronaldo left, people thought that the El Clasico would never be the same again but many people forget that the Spanish clubs are always producing young top-quality players such as Barca’s Gavi and Pedri.

The La Liga also know how popular the El Clasico is to the global audience and they have tried to market their key fixture by giving it the ‘Super Bowl’ magic by staging fan events across the city and hosting parties before the match with celebrities and influencers.

Real Madrid has had their own small issues as they are still looking for the next big star since Ronaldo left for Juventus in 2018. They really hope to achieve this by acquiring the services of Kylian Mbappe in the summer when his contract runs out at PSG.

They know the qualities he possesses and he would be an attractive player for them to showcase to the world over the next few years.

However, at the moment they do have their current poster boy in Vinicius who has proven to be a real talent for Los Blancos.

“He has a lot of potential, a lot of individual quality, a lot of technical quality and this season he is learning more and more about Spanish and European football, about tactics,” says former Real Madrid winger Savio.

The Brazilian winger has progressed a lot since his days in Flamengo and has all the ingredients to become one of the world’s best players if he continues with his performances in the future.

Real Madrid will need Vinicius and any new recruitments in the summer to increase their dominance in the league as it looks like Barcelona will look to seriously challenge for the title from next season.
