Newcastle head to the Etihad as they hope to continue their great form and continue to climb up the Premier League table, while City have a must win game on their hands as they look to regain the lead in the title race.
Manchester City find themselves 2nd in the table by goal difference after Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw versus Spurs, leaving the reigning champions the possibility to go 3 points clear with just 4 games to go. Today, they face an inform Newcastle side who have won 4 of their last 5 games as well as putting in credible performances throughout.
Since Eddie Howe was announced Newcastle manager back in October, he has done a tremendous job at the club, taking them up to 13th in the table from relegation favourites. Their season started off dreadfully as they didn’t pick up their first win until December which came against Burnley. Since then, they slowly improved their form to the point that they can be seen a genuine threat to any opponent.
City, on the other hand, won’t be feeling quite as positive despite their immaculate showing in the Premier League this season, after their last game saw them conceding 3 goals in 6 minutes in the Champions League semi-final which led to their abrupt exit in the competition.
A shock win for The Magpies would see them jump up to 10th in the table, whilst also blasting the Premier League title race wide open, dealing a further blow for the blue side of Manchester. Newcastle will be hoping one of their new signings Bruno Guimaraes, will continue his great start for the club, getting 5 goal contributions since he joined back in January. This won’t be easy however, as they face one of the best teams in Europe who will be looking to bounce back from the embarrassment they suffered mid-week.
With quadruple chasing Liverpool on their tails the whole way of the closing of the season, City know that a win is the only option for them, and with this now being the only trophy they can win this season, there’s no doubt that they will go absolutely all out to ensure this season doesn’t end a trophyless one.
Newcastle will have to have a performance close to perfection to allow them to take any points from the game which they will have to deliver if they want to finish the season in the top half of the table. Magpie fans around the world will be watching on and hoping for one of their main men, Allan Saint-Maximin, to deliver a top performance and improve on his 5-goal tally for the season.
A huge game for both sides and everything on the line for Man City, it’s a certainty that football fans around the world will be watching on and praying for an Eddie Howe miracle to once again show the true beauty of football.
